Your Perfect Putter
Finding your perfect putter is probably the most important choice any golfer can make. Though new and even intermediate golfers tend to spend more time working on their long game at the driving range, experienced professionals know that nothing can improve your scores quite as quickly as working on your putting. In this article, we will be sharing tips and even some professional advice that will help you choose a putter that is right for you.
The most important thing, of course, is finding a putter that you feel comfortable with. But odds are that there are many quality putters you will feel comfortable with, so it is always a good idea to discuss what exactly makes a good putter and how it will improve your game.
For the beginner who goes into his local golf shop, finding any type of golfing equipment, including a putter, can be a bit overwhelming. There are literally dozens of different styles and types to choose from, not to mention the brands that produce them. That is why it is important to talk to an experienced professional rather than just grabbing one off the rack. He will explain the different types and styles of putters and help you to find the one that is right for you. In the next few paragraphs, we are going to discuss just a few of the things you should know and some questions you should ask when you are looking for that perfect putter.
Material: The golf putt is a patient, deliberate stroke that is often said to be more about feel than any other shot. Therefore, it is important for you to ask what type of material is used in the putter head and what are the relative benefits they provide? The most common materials include aluminum, steel, and brass. Finding the right one for you will most likely take a few practice putts.
Head Shape: Putters are generally available in two head shapes, the blade, or the mallet. Again, there is no general consensus about which head shape is the right one two use. People of all different levels of experience, including pros, use either the blade or the mallet. You will simply have to decide which head shape works best for you and your particular golfing style.
Price: Most new golfers make the mistake of going into their local golf shop and simply selecting the most expensive putter they can find. But remember, an expensive putter will not give you added confidence and it will not improve your game if it is not the right club for you. Price does not necessarily mean quality, so don't be fooled by the tag.
Putter Types: There are three basic putter types:
belly putter, conventional and long putter. Not surprisingly, the conventional putter is considered a little bit easier to use for beginning golfers. Although the belly and long clubs also have their advantages as they are the preferred clubs for people with wrist and back problems. So, if you have these conditions, you might consider a belly or a long club.
Those are just a few of the things you should consider when you go looking for a putter. Just remember, ask questions, and try out every style and type of club you can. After all, the putter is perhaps the most important club in your bag, so be patient and find the one that is right for you.
